Ford Aspire

Ford launched the Figo Aspire compact sedan August last year. In essence, the Aspire is the logical successor to the now out-of-production Ford Classic. In June 2016, the Figo Aspire was renamed to just ‘Aspire’.  Based on the latest Figo, the Aspire rivals the Maruti Swift DzireHonda AmazeTata Zest and Hyundai Xcent. Now, in the face of rising competition, Ford has now given the Aspire  hefty price cut. Check out the Ford Aspire Price in India, Features, Specifications, Images, Mileage and other details here.

The base Diesel model starts at INR 6.38 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi).“Offering technologically advanced and safe products are critical to our vision and commitment to customers,” said Anurag Mehrotra, executive director, Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford India. “With the realignment of prices, Figo and Aspire are even more compelling for customers. The realignment also enhances the accessibility of these outstanding products, which offer segment-first safety features and class-leading technologies.”

For reference, the Honda Amaze petrol starts at INR 5.18 lacs and diesel at INR 6.20 lacs while the Maruti Swift Dzire starts at INR 5.16 lacs for the petrol and INR 5.99 lacs for the diesel. All variants except the base Ambiente trim have been given a price cut. Titanium variants of both diesel and petrol Aspire are cheaper by INR 91,000.

Specifications

The Figo Aspire is sold with a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine that will come mated with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Also on offer is a 1.2-litre NA petrol motor that will also come with a 5-speed manual transmission. The highlight, however, is a 1.5-litre petrol motor that comes mated to a 6-speed Powershift dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

The Ford Aspire is the first car in its class to offer a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. We drove the 1.2 L petrol and 1.5 diesel engine equipped vehicles and they seem to be among the best in the class. Especially the diesel motor which is very punchy. However, the driving dynamics aren’t as sorted as other Ford products we have driven in the past.

Features

On the features front, the highlight would be a device dock on the car’s centre console (for lower variants) and Ford’s SYNC with Applink (for the top-end trims). The Aspire also becomes the first car in its class to come with side and curtain airbags, along with dual front airbags. The variant-wise features list is as follows:

  • Ambiente– Rear fog lamps, fabric upholstery, 14 inch steel wheels, 12 V power outlet, follow-me home headlamps, manual aircon, front power windows, dual airbags, remote locking, tilt adjust steering.
  • Trend (In addition to the above)- Front fog lamps, fabric door inserts, rear centre armrest, steering mounted controls, electrically adjustable wing mirrors, rear power windows, my Ford Dock, stereo with AUX, USB and Bluetooth.
  • Titanium (In addition to the above)- Rear defogger, climate control, driver seat height adjust, ESP, traction control, hill start assist, seatbelt reminder and height adjust, 14 inch alloy wheels.
  • Titanium+ (In addition to the above)- leather seats, CD/MP3 player, 4.2 inch multifunction display, Ford SYNC with voice command, Ford MYKEY, side and curtain airbags

Aspire Review Video & Images

Ford India has stated that the Aspire boasts of some segment-first features. One of these, the Ford MyKey. enables the owner to program the key to ensure that the driver of the car drives responsibly. “For example, if you want to give the car to your younger brother or your son for a week, you have the ability to program the key in a way that the car cannot be driven beyond a particular speed or you cannot increase the audio volume beyond a particular level. That is the Ford My Key. Then there is the My Ford Dock, where you can dock your mobile phone or MP3 player so that you can connect your Sync to it. So you do not have to take your hands off the wheel, you can operate it with your eyes on the road,” added P K Umashankar

Until now, Ford has adopted a ‘one model strategy’. As per which it has mainly concentrated its all its efforts on pushing the sales of only one out of all its models. This started with the Ikon, was carried forward to the Fiesta, then the Figo, and then to the EcoSport. While this has definitely helped Ford India with producing some best-sellers in the market, there is no denying that other Ford cars in India have largely remained forgotten. However, this state of affairs has changed with the launch of new Ford products.
