Mercedes’ GLC, which was unveiled last year, will find its way into Indian showrooms in 2016. The GLC is the replacement for the GLK SUV and is a more global product than its predecessor, as the GLK was only available in left-hand drive guise. The change in name comes as part of Mercedes Benz’s revised nomenclature which also saw the M-Class being renamed the GLE. The Mercedes GLC will come to India almost a year after its global launch. MBIL showcased the GLC at the Auto Expo recently. Although the car has been launched globally, the Mercedes GLC India launch will take place only in the second half of 2016.

Price

Pricing for the Mercedes-Benz GLC will be in the region of INR 45 lakhs (ex-showroom) and will compete with the BMW X3Audi Q5 and Volvo XC60

Specifications

There will be two variants of the Mercedes GLC offered in India- GLC 250d and GLC 350. The 250d will be offered with a 2.1 litre diesel producing 201 bhp while the 350 will be powered by a 3.0 litre petrol V6. Internationally the GLC get two more variants- 220d and 350e Plug-in hybrid. All variants come with Merc’s 4MATIC all wheel drive system and 9-speed automatic transmission, barring the 350e which gets a 7-speed automatic.

 There will be two performance oriented versions of the Mercedes GLC by AMG at a later stage- GLC 450 AMG Sport powered by a twin-turbo V6 and GLC 63 AMG powered by the C63 AMG’s twin-turbo V8. The Mercedes-Benz GLC is based on the MRA platform, same as the C-Class sedan. At the Auto Expo, Mercedes-Benz showcased the GLC 300 4MATIC

Features


  • The styling of the GLC is in line with Mercedes’ current design language as seen on the new C-Class and S-Class. The grille and headlamp arrangement is similar in design to the Mercedes C-Class sedan.
  • The rear are narrower than the outgoing model and lend a more grown up look to the Mercedes GLC.
  • Like the front end, the dashboard is also quite similar in design to the C-Class with an identical steering wheel and centre console.
  • Much like the exteriors, the interiors of the Mercedes GLC look much more grown up and luxurious than the GLK.
  • The Mercedes-Benz GLC also gets the latest version of the COMAND infotainment system.

The Mercedes GLC unveil will take place at the Auto Expo followed by a launch soon afterwards.
